Applying for a Job

To apply for jobs at an indoor pools, call or visit the pool. To apply for jobs at a beach or outdoor pool, call (206) 684-4078.

Other aquatic jobs are Pool Cashiers and Recreation Attendants for Pools, Beaches and Wading Pools.


HOW TO GET STARTED

  1. Must be at least *15 years old, able to swim 500 yard continuously, able to retrieve a 10 pound object from a minimum depth of 7 feet and tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.
  2. Sign up for Lifeguard Training
  3. Sign up for Northwest Lifeguard Test
  4. Download Application Packet You will need adobe acrobat reader to view this 

document.
  5. Send a cover letter and resume and/or aquatic application to parksaquatics@seattle.gov or mail to:

    860 Terry Ave. N.
    Seattle, WA 98109-4330

    Or contact the Aquatic Center Coordinator at any of the Seattle Parks and Recreation indoor swim pools.


PAY INFORMATION

Lifeguard Pay First Step: $13.45

All temporary employees are paid a percentage of their salary as premium pay in addition to their regular hourly rate. Premium pay is in lieu of base level of vacation and all other fringe benefits. 
** $13.45 + 5% premium pay is $14.12 (2008 pay rates)

* Must be 16 years old to work for Seattle Parks and Recreation


REQUIREMENT

Required qualifications

  1. Lifeguard Training
  2. Community First Aid
  3. CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  4. Northwest Lifeguard Test
  5. 16 years old

Desired qualifications

  1. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
  2. Lifeguard Training Instructor (LGI) Certification

Required once you are offered a job

  1. Pass Background check
  2. Pass Physical provided by City of Seattle
