I created this site to inform my priorities for improving pedestrian safety. A critical street crossing is a crosing that the person submitting it considers critical to pedestrian safety. Its posting on my web site does not mean the City of Seattle also considers it critical. Since the photos and comments submitted are anecdotal data based upon citizen experiences, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is not obligated to analyze or address such data. I will, however, use this information in suggesting intersection or crosswalk changes or improvements.
Keep in mind that the City of Seattle is obligated to provide streets, including intersections that are reasonably safe for ordinary travel. This does not mean free from any and all potential hazards. No intersection or crosswalk is reasonably safe if drivers and pedestrians do not exercise necessary care.
I invite you to send me your snapshots of intersections and street crossings by following the instructions above. I will catalogue the photos I receive and keep them posted here. If I receive several photos of the same intersection or crossing, I will pick just one or two to post. Sorry, but I will not be able to post photos that are not formatted accordingly nor will I be able to post hard copy photos you might want to snail-mail to me. Photos will be posted monthly.
Each person submitting a photo or comment will be assigned a unique 'Respondent #', allowing viewers to see which postings a person submits while allowing for anonymity. If you prefer having your name and/or email address listed with your postings so people can contact you, please indicate that in your email.
