To the north of this intersection is a very sharp curve, around 105th. Southbound cars tend to be surprised by the presence of this crosswalk. Northbound cars cannot see the signage, as trees obscure their view. Clustered around this intersection are two Metro bus stops and two drop-off points for city school buses. For the first five months of the school year, school bus pickups occur in the dark. This is an extremely dangerous intersection and has been for the ten years I have lived in the neighborhood.
Seattle Department of Transportation (SDoT) Response
After a field visit, we noted some improvements that could be done to improve visibility for pedestrians and vehicles. We will trim the trees in the area and also relocate some of the pedestrian crosswalk signs to a location where they will more visible for approaching vehicles. We will also place stop bars in advance of the marked crosswalk with accompanying signs alerting motorists of where to stop when pedestrians are present. You should notice these changes happening within the next 2 - 4 weeks.
