$7/M will be spent on this section of Greenwo\od Ave. N from 105th to 112th starting this summer, but nothing will be done to improve the atrocious pedestrian conditions at (this) crazy intersection. No reduced speed limit (it'll still be posted at 35mph), two right turning lanes, no ped refuges. Ick.
Seattle Department of Transportation (SDoT) Response, 10/23/08
As you mention, SDOT will be making changes to this location with a 2009-10 project. With this project, a marked crosswalk will be added to the west leg. The signalized crossing will have an exclusive pedestrian walk phase, which should eliminate vehicle/pedestrian conflicts at this crossing. In other words, cars will be prohibited from turning right while pedestrians have the “walk” light. Because pedestrians will be able to cross this leg of the intersection without needing to stop, a median island is not appropriate. This change will significantly increase the pedestrian connections in the area.
