DPD planners working on land use policy are responsible for developing regulations that govern the use of land in Seattle.  The Land Use Code amendment process is designed to ensure that changes to existing regulations benefit the public while also fulfilling the City's design standards. 

Land use planners work to achieve this balance, creating a process that citizens can navigate, that at the same time considers all aspects and implications of the proposed amendment. They work with other staff in DPD's City Planning section to:

• protect sensitive natural areas,
• promote good urban design,
• ensure an adequate infrastructure to accomodate growth, and
• lessen the impact of new development on existing neighborhoods and city systems.
