Created by the citizens of Seattle in 1902, Seattle City Light has served our customers with electricity and related services for more than a century. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today Seattle City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. We look forward to continuing this tradition in the 21st century and beyond.

City Light's Mission:
To provide stable, competitively priced and environmentally sound electricity to customers.
How City Light Supports the Mayor's Priorities:
Get Seattle Moving: Seattle City Light is supports local and regional transportation projects by relocating poles, overhead lines and underground facilities and preparing engineering designs for the Sound Transit Link Light Rail Project and the Alaskan Way Viaduct.

Keep our Neighborhoods Safe: In the wake of the events of 9/11, City Light has redoubled its efforts to ensure the security of our electrical infrastructure and maintain 24/7 readiness to respond to power outages and other emergencies.

Create Jobs and Opportunity for All: City Light employs a workforce that reflects the community it serves, secures sufficient and efficient resources, provides electric service at affordable, stable rates, and supports South Lake Union redevelopment.

Building Strong and Healthy Communities: In 2005 Seattle City Light achieved its long-term goal to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero. In 2004 Seattle City Light helped reduce air pollution in the Puget Sound basin by working with the Washington State Ferries and Metro Transit to convert to biodiesel fuels, secured an agreement with the Port of Seattle to provide on-shore power to cruise ships so they would not have to run their diesel generators while in port, and gained recognition from the Nation Hydropower Association for outstanding stewardship of the Skagit River for the sixth year in a row.
