Utility Construction Worker
Utility Construction Worker Apprenticeships are an eighteen-month program.
Utility Construction Worker Apprentices will learn to use hand, electric, pneumatic and power tools for the construction, maintenance and repair of City Light's underground electrical distribution system and other components of the City power grid. They will learn utility construction guidelines and print reading, electrical recognition, vault and confined space safety, trench safety and emergency response. They will learn how to operate heavy construction equipment and how to provide work site protection.
Minimum Qualifications to Apply:
- High School diploma or equivalent and the ability to do basic mathematics successfully
- A Valid Washington State Driver's License is required for employment
- Ability to obtain a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within sixty days of employment
- Must be 18 years of age at time of hire
- Willing to travel offsite periodically for apprenticeship and on-the-job (OJT) training
- Meet the physical requirements of the trade
Desired Qualifications:
- A combination of training and/or experience that is equivalent to any of the following:
- Successful completion of a pre-apprenticeship program or
- Prior experience in the construction trades
- Other related school or work experience
