Report on Clean Seattle Initiative

Cleanup:  Fremont

Date of Cleanup:  November 20, 2004

Departments:  Seattle Parks and Recreation, Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities Community Services Division

Mayor Nickels led more than 65 Neighborhood volunteers, along with the services of Seattle City Departments and Community groups to clean up Fremont. Department of Neighborhoods Director Yvonne Sanchez and King County Council member Larry Phillips also participated.

Urban Forestry was involved with the mulching of the eroded areas on either side of the Troll sculpture and worked with volunteers to remove invasive Ivy from 9 large tree pits on Stoneway, north of 36th.

Street Cleaning picked up 98 cubic yard of leaves, cleaned 2 stairways, cut 1 1/2 swath miles of brush and cleared brush at N 40th St between Phinney Ave N to Dayton Ave N and swept 10 curb miles.

Cleanup Activities:

  • Signs and markings cleaned 10 signs, 5 control boxes and 1 pedestrian push button

  • 150 streetlights repaired


  • Removed a sofa and 2 monitors from Fremont Ln N.

  • Hydrant on N34th was replaced


  • Graffiti paintout by volunteer (along the pillars of State Route 99) 200 square feet. Another 100 square feet of retaining wall along alley was painted out.


  • Private property inspections were conducted. Three enforcement letters were issued.


  • 25 Litter bags collected by DOC


  • 3,320 sq. ft. painted out and89 chemical removals
