Report on Clean Seattle Initiative
Cleanup: First Hill
Date of Cleanup: August 12
On Saturday, August 12, 2006 , Mayor Greg Nickels lead more than thirty-four
(34) mostly senior citizen volunteers as they greened and cleaned the First
Hill neighborhood. Participants from the First Presbyterian Church, First
Hill Community Council, First Hill Improvement association, Sorrento Hotel,
Harbor View Medical Center , Virginia Mason Health Center removed ivy from
street tree pits, spread mulch, swept, and picked up litter.
The Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle City
Light, Seattle Department of Transportation, the Department of Corrections
and Seattle Public Utilities also assisted in the effort. Anthony Harris took
digital photographs.
Cleanup Activities:
- 30 traffic signs cleaned.
- 600 lineal feet of curb painted.
- 3 control boxes cleaned.
- Swept 10 curb miles of streets.
- Used 1.5 tons of asphalt to patch
potholes.
- Volunteers picked up more than 200 lbs of litter.
- Collected 1000 lbs. of debris.
- Assisted in ivy removal along planting
strips.
