Report on Clean Seattle Initiative

Cleanup: University Park

Date of Cleanup: February 18, 2006

Departments:  Seattle Department of Transportation, Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Department of Correction work crews and Seattle Public Utilities Community Services Division.

On Saturday, February 18, 2006, Mayor Greg Nickels lead more one-hundred and fifty (150) volunteers as they cleaned University Park. Organized by the Department of Neighborhoods’ Coordinator Karen Ko, participants from the University Park Garden Club, University Park Community Council, Community and Environmental Planning students, Green Team (Homeless Youth Work Crew), UW student (including UW football players, and community residents swept, picked up litter and cleaned traffic circles.

The mayor, Kent Wills of the University Park Community Council and UW students planted a tree at 20th Ave and Ravenna Blvd.

Cleanup Activities:

  • Repaired 89 streetlights
  • Used .15 tons of asphalt to patch over 3 potholes
  • Crews cleaned 77 signs and replaced 4 signs.
  • Collected 35 bags of litter.
  • Replaced one tree on the Ravenna Blvd.
  • Collected 2,000 pounds of litter.
  • Cleaned two dumpsites.
