Report on Clean Seattle Initiative

Cleanup: West Lake Union

Date of Cleanup:  November 18, 2006

On Saturday, November 18, 2006 , Mayor Greg Nickels led more than one-hundred volunteers as they cleaned the area. Participants from the Floating Homes Association, Seattle Pacific University , Franklin High School, King County Juveniles’ program, BEAN, and local businesses raked, collected and removed dead leaves along Westlake Ave from South Lake Union Park to just south of the Fremont Bridge. Volunteers also swept and picked up litter.

Seattle Parks and Recreation Chief of Staff B.J. Brooks, on behalf of Seattle Parks and Recreation Superintendent Ken Bounds, presented Mayor Nickels with a Clean & Green Seattle work jacket in recognition of his leadership and work in bringing Seattle citizens together to improve our city.

The Department of Neighborhoods, Seattle Department of Transportation, Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Department of Corrections, Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities also assisted in the effort.

Cleanup Activities:

  • Repaired 13 streetlights
