Report on Clean Seattle Initiative

Cleanup: West Seattle - Solstice Park , Lowman Beach Park and Morgan Junction

Date of Cleanup:  May 20, 2006

Departments:  Seattle Department of Transportation, Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, Fire Station 28, Seattle City Light, Department of Correction work crews and Seattle Public Utilities Community Services Division.

On Saturday, May 20, 2006 , Mayor Greg Nickels lead more fifty (50) volunteers as they cleaned Solstice Park , Lowman Beach Park and Morgan Junction. Organized by the Department of Neighborhoods’ Coordinator Stan Lock, participants from the Morgan Community Association, Fairmount Springs Neighborhood Association, Friends of Lincoln Park Annex, Fauntleroy Community Association, Chief Sealth and West Seattle high schools and the 34 th District Democrats weeded, spread gravel, spread mulch, swept, and picked up litter. The mayor and community volunteers spread gravel at Solstice Park.

Cleanup Activities:

  • 22 Streetlights repaired.
  • Cleared more than 1 acre of blackberrys, weeds, & invasives.
  • The landscape section of Urban Forestry cleansed and mulched with volunteers 10 tree pits in the Fauntleroy and California interchange.
  • 3 yards of bark/wood chips spread.
  • 40 garbage bag pick-ups.
