Quick Jump:

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels welcomed the vote today by the Seattle City Council reducing the third tier rate for Seattle City Light Customers.

May 28, 2002 - In early May, the mayor had called for a repeal of the third tier.

"This is a good day for City Light customers," said Mayor Nickels. "The vote by the council to scale back the third tier is a big step in the right direction. I think we should completely get rid of the third tier, which has caused all sorts of unintended problems, but I'd rather see significant relief now than no relief at all. Next we should look at reducing the city's third-tier water rate."
