BRAC Process

The federal Defense Base Realignment and Closure Act (BRAC) mandates a process for closing and realigning military installations within the U.S. In 2005, the President and Congress approved a list of BRAC installations, including Fort Lawton. All 2005 BRAC closures and alignments are to be completed by Sept. 15, 2011, though the City expects Fort Lawton will likely close in 2009.

What's New

Final Plan Submitted
City Council approved the Fort Lawton Redevelopment Plan on Sept. 22, 2008. The entire package was submitted to the Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Oct. 13, 2008.

A hard copy of the entire package submitted to DOD and HUD is available for public review at both the Central Library and the Magnolia Library.
