8. Salumeria on Hudson, 4918 Rainier:

Columbia City prospered during the 1920s, as new businesses moved in and older ones expanded. By 1922, when our historic photograph was taken, the community was a business hub for the Rainier Valley. It supported several bakeries, including the Electric Bakery, shown here. Fresh milk, cream, and other dairy products were available from the Rainier Valley Dairy next door. Rainier Avenue S had been paved by then, with bricks made at the Denny Renton Brick Company in Renton. These false-fronted wooden buildings were replaced in the 1930s. Salumeria, an Italian delicatessen, now occupies the site.
