Pay Station Neighborhoods: Uptown/Lower Queen Anne

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has completed adding both on-street paid parking and a residential parking zone (RPZ) in Uptown. On-street parking throughout Uptown has often been full. Paid on-street parking is expected to encourage area employees and Seattle Center visitors who wish to park for longer durations to more appropriately park in off-street lots, thereby opening up spaces in the business district for customers and visitors. The expanded Zone 13 RPZ will give residents a better chance of finding parking, especially in the evening when these RPZ blocks will be available only for vehicles with RPZ permits from 6 PM to Midnight.

In 2007-2008, as equipment is available, SDOT is considering installing pay stations on blocks with the new RPZ. In that situation, legitimate RPZ permit holders would be allowed to park on those signed blocks without paying at the pay station. Other users would be required to pay at the pay station and stay within the time allowed on the sign.

This letter and map describing the areas where the RPZ and paid parking have been installed, was sent to all Uptown area residents, business tenants and property owners in late August 2006.

In late 2005, SDOT conducted an on-street parking study in the neighborhood. The results of the study will be used with community comments to determine if and where paid parking should be expanded.
